Who We Are

The Venture Capital Association of Alberta (VCAA), founded in 2000, is dedicated to accelerating the growth of the venture capital ecosystem in Alberta. Our mandate includes advocating for venture capital investment, creating opportunities for social engagement, generating deal flow, and providing educational tools and content for both investors and founders. As the premier industry association for venture capital investors in the prairies, the VCAA has grown to include over 60 of the country’s most prominent funds and ecosystem partners. 

VCAA has played a critical role in the growth and expansion of Alberta’s VC and technology ecosystem. Over the past few years, the organization has rapidly evolved alongside Alberta’s innovation ecosystem, resulting in significant growth in both membership and impact on the VC community. With growing demand and national recognition, VCAA is well positioned to continue its growth trajectory by .  this role from part-time to full-time and offer a competitive salary to attract top talent who can fully dedicate themselves to driving the next phase of growth. To sustain this momentum, we are seeking a dynamic, passionate, and community-driven Executive Director to lead the organization through this next stage of growth and impact.

You are a driven and experienced professional with a deep passion for and knowledge of Alberta’s venture capital ecosystem. You’re not just a caretaker; you’re a visionary with the ambition to shape the future of the VCAA. You have a big-picture mentality paired with the practical skills and willingness to roll up your sleeves to execute on the strategy to bring that vision to life. You excel in leadership, operations, communication, and networking, and you’re excited about making a meaningful impact within the community. Event management experience is a plus, and you’re technologically adept, comfortable with tools like Slack, Canva, Luma Zoom, and accounting software. 

The Role

As the Executive Director, reporting to the highly engaged VCAA Board of Directors, you will be the driving force behind all operational aspects of the organization, including:

  • Strategic Vision & Implementation: You’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of venture capital in Alberta, driving initiatives that align with our big-picture goals.

  • Board Management: You will organize quarterly board meetings, manage the AGM, and collaborate with board members to design, develop, and implement strategic initiatives.

  • Member Engagement & Recruitment: You’ll create and execute innovative strategies to engage our members in meaningful ways and grow our community, ensuring that the growing membership base remains active and involved.

  • Communication Strategy: You’ll oversee our communication efforts, including newsletters, social media presence, and website management, to keep our members informed and connected.

  • Fundraising & Sponsorship: As a non-profit, the VCAA relies on sponsorship dollars. You’ll build and maintain relationships with sponsors to fund our events and initiatives.

  • Event Management: You will take charge of planning and executing a range of events, from the Ski Conference and Stampede gatherings to online events, and professional development opportunities. See our past events here

  • Budget Ownership & Management: You’ll ensure the financial health of the VCAA, managing resources effectively to support our strategic goals.
